  1. If anybody has the chance to look at 2:00 can you let us know if they actually show it?

  2. I just saw the show. What Muzika says is true. Officer Boswell said "the cats have everything they need here, food, water and shelter." How is that neglect? They raided him at 5:30 a.m. because they wanted to get him before he got up, before he could clean boxes or feed. One poor kitty tried to hide in a bucket, one under the bed covers. Mason looks clean, well kept, his bed was clean, yard was mowed, all the cats looked healthy.

They said he had no criminal history, not even a parking ticket. They said they took photos and evidence. They said his cats had panleukemia which could "kill all cats in a two block radius." If that were so, all cats in LA would be dead. They didn't read him his rights before they filmed, spoke to him.

Mason says that he had been speaking with Officer Boswell for two years. Boswell said the same. Mason said all they did was offer to loan him traps. You could pick up most of these cats. They should have just taken them before when Mason asked.

An LAPD officer said they want him convicted so there will be probation so they can force him to comply. In the next segment the mental health professional said recidivism is 100%. He says hoarders generally have OCD and other problem. He said Mason needed help and they would give him help. They didn't give him any help at all.

This was all done just to get video for the City channel. I think a regular viewer would be sympathetic to Mason. They would think that Animal Services should have done their job and helped him, taken the cats. They would think that the mental health professionals should have helped him.

  4. If that's true then Officer Boswell should be fired.

And if Officer Boswell said the cats have everything they need, then where the hell was Dana Bartholomew to ask what they were all doing there?

This is just appalling. They killed defenseless cats who had a home where they were fed and loved -- for nothing.

    Absolutely no reason.

  5. No wonder they aren't charging Mason. They've got NOTHING!!

What an outrage, just another example how Boks will do anything for publicity including ruining someone's life.

  6. Mason shouldn't be the one in handcuffs. Marcia Mayeda should be the one in handcuffs locked away for life for the tourment and suffereing she's caused to the animals in her slaughterhouses.

  7. I found it interesting how they talked about Mason being an animal horder. He said he maybe had 10 cats inside his house - and some of them were there because they weren't yet fixed. (He said he won't let them outside until they are fixed.) And what about the animal hospital Mason took a 4-month old cat to for spaying/ neutering who refused until the cat was 6 months old? That vet was being irresponsible and who knows how many cats he (or she) alone was responsible for being born because of not believing in early age spay/neuter.

How can Ron Mason be a horder when most of the cats were not his... and stayed outside? If anything, he was practicing what the city should be condoning - TNR - and it looked as if he was being as responsible about it as was possible. All he seemed to be doing was feeding the neighborhood cats that lived outside. Why does that make him a horder?

If this was a man who had something to hide I doubt he would have been so cooperative with everyone.

Seems to me the best thing LAPD did was to film Mason's big bust. It showed what a sham it was!

  8. That video is unbelieveably creepy. And could Mary Grady, the LAPD information officer, get any more smarmy and insincere?

Two points. For those of us who watch "Animal Precinct" and all the other HLE shows, you always see a disclaimer that everyone shown is innocent until proven guilty. Yet this show didn't say that at all, anywhere. They give Ron's full name, etc. Looks like pretty clear grounds for a lawsuit against Boks, the City, the ACTF, LAAS, City TV, et al.

Second, I've spoken to Ron, so I know he's not crazy. But they spend all this time in the video talking about how he's a hoarder, and how hoarding is a mental disease, and how people who hoard generally have OCD, etc. Their main premise is that Ron has a mental disorder (which hardly squares with the degree of premeditation and intent that would be required to commit FELONY animal cruelty, but let's leave that by the wayside for the moment). If they believe Ron has a mental disorder, then handcuffing him at the crack of dawn, pointing a camera at him, and then asking for his consent to be photgraphed, filmed and questioned flat-out constitutes forcing him to consent under duress. Especially since there's no evidence of his having been advised that he could have an attorney which, since they admit on-camera that he has NO criminal record, isn't something that would be foremost in his mind.

On top of which, anyone who's seen "Animal Precinct" knows Ron's house could have been A LOT worse. It's not running in House Beautiful anytime soon, but then neither's mine. Not against the law to be a bad housekeeper.

Most importantly for everyone who reads this, or who knows anyone with animals: Keep copies of all your vet records off-site, or keep your vet records off-site. A warrant has to be for a specific location. If they want a copy of your vet records, make sure you get to dictate the circumstances under which they get them. If they want to make copies make sure you're there or your attorney is there to see what's copied.

Second, God love Ron. He thought if he told people what actually happened the facts would be enough. He's a nice guy, but he's dealing with extremely bad people. You see a cop, you say "Lawyer!" They ask you anything, you say "Lawyer!" They accuse you of torturing kittens on television, you say, "Lawyer!" And you do not say one other syllable.

If Ron had asked for a lawyer, he probably wouldn't even need one anymore.

  9. I was amazed how rational and calm Mason appeared. I certainly wouldn't have been able to present myself as well under the circumstances.

So, from what I can see, here is a guy that was feeding a feral colony--it just happened to be in his yard. Judging from this video, anyone who feeds ferals can be classified as a hoarder by Animal Services and arrested. Feeding strays without getting them fixed may be irresponsible, but its not a felony.

True hoarders (as opposed to Mason) SHOULD be fully prosecuted and tracked on release. They can cause immense suffering. The problem is identifying who is a true hoarder and who is not.
