Two years later the numbers are much worse. The following 2008 numbers are from Brad Jensen of sheltertrak.com. LA County has slipped into hell.
In 2008, 80% were killed at County and another 6-7% died in the shelter or were "lost" (other). Of the 40,975 cats impounded (alive), only 4,603 were adopted, or 11%.
These statistics are from animal records provide by LACDACC.

NOW JOE RAMIREZ AND VECTOR CONTROL WANTS TO ADD TO THAT EXTREME DEATH TOLL. I AM CERTAIN MAYEDA'S SHELTERS ARE BY FAR THE WORST LARGE SHELTER SYSTEM IN THE COUNTY.
One wonders how things can possibly be getting worse at County, but they are.
Feral cats spread disease. That is a fact. Good thing the county health department has enough sense to fight for issues like these.
ReplyDeleteSo do pigeons, raccoons, squirrels, crows, opossum, coyotes, song birds, rats, etc.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is Joe wants to kill when only the slightest potential is there, not an actual disease outbreak.
And, what diseases are you talking about buddy? Is there any evidence of terrorist plans to use cats as a vector, or that there is an immediate threat of pneumonic plague?
Joe is a moron, poorly educated with an eye focused on killing. He wouldn't accept flea control for squirrels in Santa Monica, even though that is what the state suggested for control of the plague flea vector. He just wanted to kill them.
Fielding is an advocate of evidence-based intervention by County Health in any potential disease outbreak situation. I've read his papers.
ReplyDeleteJow and VanGordon never present evidence for what they are doing with killing. Gail supported her continued killing of ground squirrels in Santa Monica, not based on evidence a real risk, but by distorting laws about abatement, laughing at scientists from Urban Wildlife who presented data that there was no threat, calling them pompous jerks.
She said altogether, the people in Vector Control had a lot of experience and that outweighed any evidence brought to light the issue by ecologists.
Humans spread disease. HIV, herpes, flu, STD. Let's round up all humans and kill them.
