Mary Cummins Lawsuit Was the Reason Boks Was Fired

From the same reliable, close to Council source that told me the mayor is not going to hire a new GM anytime soon, I found out the reason Ed Boks was fired was Mary Cummins' harassment lawsuit.

Certain Councilmembers told the city attorney they wouldn't approve any settlement if Boks still had a job. Villaraigosa met with go betweens and one other and then told Boks to resign.

Blackman got hold of a lot of the emails from the lawsuit in February 2007 that showed exactly what Boks said and did.

Imaginbe that, we have been fighting Boks for years on substantive issues like perfomance, lying about statistics, policies, performance, turning away animals, his firing and lawsuits in New York, and it takes a sexual and personnel lawsuit involving money before our mayor does anything.

The Mayor only cares about his image. He does not care about the City, citizens or its animals. The Mayor would not care if Boks killed and ate a baby, as long as the media didn't get ahold of it and he didn't get convicted in a court of law. Mayor hired Boks for positive press. He did not care if he killed all the animals, as long as he made the Mayor look good

Well, "making the Mayor look good" turned out really well for both of them, didn't it?

The L.A. Times today has an article about how the City Attorney race is also a referendum on Villaraigosa's power, as he's thrown all his weight behind Jack Weiss, another no-friend of animals.

Seems worthwhile to point out that if you take a look at Carmen Trutanich's website (http://www.tru09.com/initiatives.php?Pname=initiatives), number two on his initiatives list is "Animal Welfare & Protection."

So that's three good reasons to vote for Trutanich: To get rid of useless, not-friend to animals Jack Weiss; to get a City Attorney who actually thinks cruelty to animals is a crime; and to make your statement about the political clout of Antonio Villaraigosa.

Doesn't say much for government accountability now does it.

Vote Trutanich! Not only does he care about animal issues but he'd do a better job as City Attorney. Weiss has no experience as an attorney. He's just been a politician. While a politician he received the worst rating of any councilmember ever. He never responded to complaints by the public. There was even a recall motion. All Weiss cares about is photo ops with the Mayor and getting greased by wealthy developers. He sold out the citizens of district five to developers.

During the meeting of five with the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Bickhart, the Mayor asked if other animal control agencis had these problems with activists. Someone said "Marcia Mayeda at County doesn't get attacked by the activists even though their euth rate is much higher and they treat the animals inhumanely." The Mayor replied "can we hire her?" He wanted to hire Mayeda just because the activists haven't been attacking her, her department or the county supervisors. Crazy indeed.

Brad, I have to respectfully disagree -- it says everything we need to know about government accountability.

They don't care about morality, or issues. Their only issue is themselves. As far as Antonio Villaraigosa is concerned, Boks could kill all the animals he wanted. In fact, he could have groped all the women he wanted too, it's pretty hard to make the case that Antonio cares about that.

But to cause an embarrassing public lawsuit...now THAT'S a crime.
