Many appear to have the attitude that many cats are unnecessarily spayed or even neutered, but so what? They are only cats. This happens all the time so it is o.k. Mistakes are made.
But what if it happened to your cats Would you just say, "Luck of the draw," or would you be mad as hell?
What if a surgeon performed a hysterectomy for some condition and two years later, when the woman was unconscious and despite the pleas of the mother to the effect her daughter had had a hysterectomy, they did exploratory surgery to see is she had had her uterus removed as they thought the bleeding came only from that source instead of a hernia condition?
Would not everyone been outraged instead of saying the luck of the draw?
Mason told the adopter and WV personnel the cats had been spayed. No one there checked, not even the attending vet who had been their attending the cats for five months. he didn't take the time.
Wouldn't it have been a dead give away that if Mason had told everyone the cat had been spayed, and a scar was seen, that it was a hysterectomy scar? Did anyone communicate with anyone, including Sergio who sent the cats to Porter? He didn't bother to tell Porter the previous owner said the cats had been spayed?
There are just too many screw ups here not to look to who was responsible.
It is my opinion that Porter never be allowed to perform any procedure on any shelter animal. A cat is not just a cat, but a living being.
The Porter blurb they post on their site said the speutered cats would be given pain medication. There is no mention on the invoice that one had been given and the pain relief medication had been administered.
Therefore, is this a lie on their part? I will apologize for saying this if they provide proof that they did and noted in their surgery notes, if they made any.
Lastly, I am waiting for explanations for what went wrong either from Rao at at Animal Services or Newman at Porter. I will post their response fairly and completely.
I know I will not get a response. I emailed my old friend Steve Feldman, Animal Services' Chief vet, who didn't respond. He is under a gag order from Ed Boks not to talk to me. Therefore we will never receive an explanation from either.
I'd also like to hear from Natalie why she was going to charge the adopter/Mason for the emergency visit on the cat they did the procedure on.
Mason told me that after he said in a full waiting room, "You mean you did two surgeries they did not need, which then caused an infection, which you fixed, you are now charging me?, about ten people got up from the waiting room and walked out.
Natalie, to get $64.50, ended up losing business far more valuable.
Does not anyone else see the magnitude of the injustice here, and possible incompetence even in the lack of communication because they were just cats? No wonder so cats die in LAAS from disease and neglect. They are only cats.
Do you know how many unweaned puppies were euthed?: 67 or 22%.
Do you know how many unweaned kittens were euthed?: 2,856 or 53%.

I had a hysterectomy though they left my ovaries. That was extremely painful. I was in the hospital for four days in pain even with medication. I could barely walk for five days, wasn't allowed to exercise for six weeks. I feel for that cat. It's tough enough to have one hysterectomy let alone almost two. The uterus isn't sitting right there when you open someone up. You have to move the other organs out of the way to get to it. That's no little thing. That poor kitty had to go through that pain for no reason. Someone needs to report that vet. That cat is a living breathing being who senses pain just like we do.
I love cats.
Keep fighting, Ed!
Ed, you'll never convince people who don't care, especially those who are so lacking in human decency that they actually spend their time denigrating the efforts of those who do care about animals' suffering.
You also won't convince losers who come to this site specifically to try to discredit you or to try and make it seem like what you're working on isn't relevant.
But trust us, you sorry-ass plants, spies and surrogates: we know what you are and we know why you're here.
If Ed and this blog didn't scare your corrupt little heads off you wouldn't be here. The fact that you are here means the pressure is working.
Sucks to be you, doesn't it?

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NO SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Makes me cry my fucking ass off, because it DID happen to my cat, and I'll never fucking forget what the asshole vets did.
The fact of the matter is that a ton of cats go through this unnecessary suffering at the hands of PEOPLE WHO ARE IN IT FOR THE MONEY, EVEN IF IT MEANS PUTTING THE CAT THROUGH UNNECESSARY TORTURE, BECAUSE THEY WANT THEIR FUCKING MONEY, and they don't give a shit if it's the city's money they're taking. FUCK THE CAT.
"The Porter blurb they post on their site said the speutered cats would be given pain medication. There is no mention on the invoice that one had been given and the pain relief medication had been administered."
FUCKING LIARS! I've had TWO fucking neuters done by Porter and I had to REQUEST pain meds for them and pay the extra cost.
PORTER DOESN"T USE PAIN MED'S AUTOMATICALLY, and NEITHER DOES NOREDA. IT COSTS MONEY, and you have to request pain meds UP FRONT, if you aren't ASKED first if you want them. AT least NOREDA asks you if you want pain meds. But even then it is EXTRA. Pain meds aren't free at these places!
FUCKING LIARS! SIMBA was allowed to undergo excruciating PAIN! And so many others have to suffer the same damn thing because these vets who do rush surgeries want their fucking money at any cost.
"

Damn, I wish he would have been able to have his vet records to prove that the cats were already altered, particularly if the spay was done by a private vet, and not by a free stray cat clinic. I so wish Mason could have gotten a copy of the surgeries from his file at the vet's office. But who was to know the vets would open up a cat unnecessarily, after they're told the cats are spayed and they have a spay scar to show it.
"Mason told me that after he said in a full waiting room, "You mean you did two surgeries they did not need, which then caused an infection, which you fixed, you are now charging me?, "
No shit. Horrific. Good for Mason for speaking up. I was screaming at Devonshire Animal Hospital when I got my cat back all shivering from the pain. The woman who trapped the cat demanded the vet open the cat up in spite of the fact the vet clearly saw the spay scar. He opened her.
I was so fucking beside myself that the vet and the vet tech couldn't understand why I was screaming at them. The woman in the waiting room brought her own cat in for emergency and she was freaked. All the stupid vet and his idiot secretary said, "you should be happy you got your cat back."
I had to take her to Noreda to get injectable pain meds. I demanded that Devonshire give the cat pain meds. They refused. They said the "owner of the cat" had to request them and pay for them.
I was the cat's fucking owner. It was the trapper who was responsible for the request, as far as they were concerned. The fucking trapper was going to release my cat to a "foster" and then a feral cat colony without as much as even checking her for a microchip.
I rushed the cat to Noreda for pain meds, and they charged me a $45 office just so that they can determine if she needed them or not. The cat had brand new stitches and a line down her fucking abdomen.
"It is my opinion that Porter never be allowed to perform any procedure on any shelter animal. A cat is not just a cat, but a living being."
That goes for all the money-hungry assholes who cut up animals unnecessarily. Rip out their organs and move them around all over the place and let them die from infection and see how they like it!
And, Oh yea...no fucking pain meds for them, either.
Just think of all the animals who are undergoing the same damned thing.
I requested pain meds at Porter, and then it wasn't on the bill. When I asked about it, they said, "oh yeah, they got them"(3 kittens got spayed), so they added it to the bill and reassured me that they got them. I've always wondered, and now I do even more.
Great to know that LAAS under Ed Boks does so much due diligence to find high-quality veterinary care for the animals they adopt out.
Add Porter Pet Hospital and their money-grubbing heartless incompetence to the many fiascos of Ed Boks.
Ed Boks is like a modern-day King Midas, except everything HE touches turns to crap.
Actually, this is how LA gets independent vets to do spay neuter surgery. They offer them $60 for surgery when the vet could probably get $100 from a regular person. So the vet then adds on tons of extra fees like mandatory blood work, vaccinations, flea treatment, e-collar....to make up the other $40. I know because I used to pick up animals from the shelter vets for rescue groups. They always told me "refuse flea meds, ecollar..." refuse to pay for blood because blood wasn't done or needed.
They don't care about the animal because it's just a shelter animal which isn't owned by anyone yet who can make a fuss. If the animal dies, big deal. They tell the person to go choose another, and they still charge the city for the botched surgery.
More about independent city vets. These vets don't like working with the city to treat animals because they know the vet techs and employees won't follow treatment guidelines or even give medication. They don't like dealing with nasty employees who won't follow their instructions. Most don't answer calls from the shelters for this reason. Why get treated like shit for very little money? I'm not saying all city employees are bad but some sure are.
So, the only vets the city ends up with are ones who want to charge a bunch of extra fees to people when they pick up their adopted pet, who are new and don't know what they're doing or who just don't care. You'll find a few idealistic ones who want to help the animals but they burn out fast.
